Cape Town is the legislative capital of South Africa and a place where the Parliament of South Africa is situated.
Cape Town's public transport is extensive and a great way to get around the city. There are trains, mini bus taxis, buses, taxis and private transportation to get to your destination.
Trains in Cape Town are the cheapest way to travel, but also they can run late, so if you are in a hurry they are not your best option. The Metrorail Western Cape train network is less frequent for more distant destinations during weekends. Therefore, if you are travelling to Simon's Town, Strand, Century City or Wellington, you will have to check the schedule because the train runs every hour or two.
The bus network in Cape Town consists of Golden Arrow Buses and the MyCiTi Buses. You should wait for the Golden Arrow Bus at the yellow bus stops and signal them to stop. The MyCiTi bus service is also connected to the Cape Town International Airport. If you are arriving there, a MyCiTi bus leaves every 20 minutes and will take you to the city centre and operates from 5.30 am to 9.30 pm.
Cape Town International Airport is the second largest in South Africa and due to its renovation in 2010, now is considered as one of the best in the country. It is located 20 km from Cape Town centre. There are two terminals- a domestic and an international one.
To get to the city centre you can take a MyCiTi bus which is reliable and frequent. Also, there are many car rental companies just outside the central terminal.
To get to your destination you can also catch an airport taxi. Bare in mind to choose a registered metered airport taxi and make sure that their taximeter is turned when your trip starts.
